These terms govern use of this website and any investigation service engaged through it. By submitting a case or using the site, you agree to them.
Scope
Scope of services
Fact Investigation provides remote research and verification services based on lawful, publicly available information, together with material voluntarily supplied by the client, reviewed and reported on by a human analyst. Every engagement begins with a case assessment and a defined scope and price, agreed with the client before research begins. Work is limited strictly to the scope agreed; anything beyond it is treated as a separate request requiring its own agreement.
Client warranties
What you confirm when you engage us
By submitting a case, you confirm that you have a lawful purpose for the research requested, that you have the right to request research into the matter you describe, and that the information you supply is accurate to the best of your knowledge. You confirm you will not use our services or any report we provide to facilitate stalking, harassment, unlawful surveillance, or any other unlawful act, and that where a decision you intend to make is subject to specific regulation — for example certain employment, credit or tenancy screening decisions — you are responsible for ensuring that use of our report complies with the rules governing that decision in your jurisdiction.
No guaranteed outcome
Nature of findings and no guaranteed outcome
Investigations research what is lawfully and publicly available at a specific point in time. We do not guarantee that any particular person, fact or connection can be identified, that money can be recovered, or that any specific outcome will result from an engagement. A report may conclude that a matter cannot be resolved, or can be only partially resolved, and such an outcome does not entitle a client to a refund solely on that basis, provided the agreed scope of work was carried out. Findings reflect information available during the research period and may become outdated as circumstances change afterward.

Using a report
Permitted use of reports
Reports are prepared for the use of the client who commissioned them, for their own personal or business decision-making, or for lawful onward use such as providing information to their own adviser or to law enforcement in relation to a matter they are reporting. Reports must not be published, used to publicly identify or shame a third party, or used for any of the prohibited purposes described below.
Payment
Payment and quotation terms
Pricing shown on this website is indicative and expressed as a starting point; the price and scope confirmed to you during case assessment is the price that applies to your engagement. Work begins only once scope and price are agreed. Payment terms, including any staged payment for longer engagements, are set out at the time scope is confirmed.
Cancellation
Cancellation
A client may request cancellation before research begins for a full refund of any amount paid. Once research has begun, fees for work already reasonably carried out are not refundable, and any remaining unbilled scope will not proceed. Specific cancellation terms may be confirmed at the time scope is agreed for a given case.
Liability
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our liability arising from an engagement is limited to the fees paid for that engagement. We are not liable for indirect, consequential or reputational losses, or for decisions made by a client on the basis of a report, which remain the client's own responsibility. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Prohibited use
Prohibited use cases
Services must not be requested or used for, among other things:
- Stalking, harassment, intimidation or monitoring of another person without lawful basis.
- Unlawful surveillance of any individual or organisation.
- Making employment, credit or tenancy decisions in a manner that does not comply with the specific regulation governing background screening in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Any purpose that would require access to private accounts, private communications, or restricted government or law-enforcement databases — access we do not provide.
We reserve the right to decline or discontinue any case where we reasonably believe it is being used, or intended to be used, for a prohibited purpose.
Governing law
Governing law
As a remote-first service engaging clients internationally, these terms are intended to be interpreted in good faith consistent with generally applicable consumer and commercial protections in the client's place of residence, and nothing in these terms is intended to remove statutory rights you may not lawfully waive. Where a specific dispute requires a governing law or forum to be determined, this will be addressed directly with the client as part of resolving that dispute.
