Confidentiality
How your case information is handled
Submitting a case usually means sharing details about people or situations you would not want made public. This page explains, in plain language, what happens to that information and where the limits are.
What you submit
What information is collected
You control what you share, and case assessment only asks for what is relevant to the research itself.
- The details of the situation you describe in your submission
- Names, usernames, photographs and links you choose to provide
- Documents relevant to the case, such as messages or invoices
- Contact details needed to reach you about your case
- Payment information handled through the platform for confirmed engagements
Who sees it
Access is limited to what a case requires
- Case handling
- Only those directly assessing or researching your case can access the material you submit, and only for that purpose.
- The subject of your case
- Case material is never shared with the person or company you are asking about, and your submission itself is never disclosed to them.
- Third parties
- Your information is not sold, rented, or shared with third parties for marketing or unrelated purposes.
- Public use
- Real client cases are never published, used as case studies, or referenced in marketing material.
Contact with the subject
The subject is not contacted unless you have explicitly agreed to it
Research is designed to be conducted without the knowledge of the person or company being researched.
By default, an investigation is carried out entirely through lawful, publicly available sources, without ever reaching out to the subject. Direct contact with a subject is only made where a scope you have explicitly agreed to requires it — for example, certain business verification steps that call for confirming a detail directly with a company. Even then, it happens only within the agreed scope, not as a default step.
Retention & deletion
How long information is kept
Case material is retained only for as long as needed to complete and support your engagement, and for a limited period afterwards in case you need to refer back to it. You can request deletion of your case material once it is no longer needed for these purposes.
Full detail on retention periods, legal bases and your rights is set out in the privacy policy, which governs data handling formally alongside this page.
Frequently asked questions
Will the person I'm asking about find out I submitted a case?
Research is based on lawful, publicly available information and does not involve contacting the subject unless a scope you have explicitly agreed to requires it. Case submissions are not shared with the subject of an investigation.
Who inside Fact Investigation sees my case?
Only the people directly involved in assessing and researching your case have access to your submitted information, and only for the purpose of completing it.
Can I ask for my data to be deleted?
Yes. You can request deletion of your case material once it is no longer needed, and requests are honoured subject to any legitimate retention period described in our privacy notice.
Do you sell or share client data?
No. Client information and case material are never sold, rented or shared with third parties for marketing or any other unrelated purpose.
Is my case ever used as a case study or example?
No. Real client cases are never published, referenced publicly or used as marketing material. Illustrative material shown on this site, such as sample reports, is fictional and does not describe any real person or case.
Where can I read the full legal privacy notice?
The formal data handling terms are set out in the privacy policy, which covers what is collected, how long it is kept and your rights over it in full legal detail.
